The Crystal and Molecular Structure of Red-Mercury Iodide

Abstract
The 20 x-ray diffraction intensity peaks for HgI2 powder were collected rotating 20hk1 angle of x-ray diffractometer from 10 degrees to 80 degrees, in which copper target had been used.
Each reflecting plane has been identified by means of the relation ship between lattice parameter and interplanar spacing.
The crystal is tetragonal, space group P42/nmc, with unit cell dimensions a=4. 3211(8)A, c=12. 3108 (8) A and z=2. The structure was solved by powder method and refined by the least squares method to R=0. 12.
The experimental and theoretical integrated intensities of the reflecting planes are in good agreement with each other.
